...but it just does not 'click' with me. Actually, of all the games I backed on Kickstarter, this one has disappointed me the most (so far). I admit it is still an ok game and there are many worse out there, but here is why I do not recommend it: - It is story based, but the story is not great - mostly it seemed pretty boring, to be honest. - Lore and world bckground are probably interesting, but the game presents them extermely scarcely, mostly on the world map, which you have no gameplay reason to ever use at all. - There are a lot of characters, who seem interesting at first, but never really fulfill their potential and end up being bland to annoying. My guess is that voice acting would help a lot here. - There is tactical combat, but rather simple and repetitive - and battles seem more like solving a puzzle than being in command of a party of unique warriors. There is little enemy variety too. - Caravan management layer is completely broken. Losing all clansemen makes no impact on the game, it does not even change random events, which still refer to your caravan as if it was full or people. - No manual save option means you might end up forced to repeat certain parts after coming back, if you happened to play through a longer section not containing autosave points. - CYOA dialogue options are rarely clear as to what they will cause, meaning you might choose an option and end up causing something you were actually trying to avoid. Usually you are just forced to choose randomly, as there is not enough information. On the plus side, presentation in superb. The game looks and sounds great (music is especially impressive), but this should be dressing for a good core game, not its main advantage. My rating: $3
I finished this game a few years ago, ecouraged by the glowing reviews, and at the end I was pretty disappointed. Maybe my expectations had been too high, since the game turned out to be just a platformer with (pretty neat) time manipulation mechanics and a pretentious storyline. I guess for many people that is exactly what they want, which is fine. For me this is one of the flagships of 'indie hipster game' phenonemon of the digital distribution age, but I do seem to be in the minority. if you like this type of game, then by all means, play Braid (you prbably have already). If not, steer clear, or wait for discounts to satisfy tour curosity. The audiovisual layer is fine, I guess, although i am not a fan of the art style. My rating: $4
I cannot honestly say that this game took me all by surprise, because I had heard it was good long before I got the opportunity to play it. But I was still surprised to see it live up to all my expectations, and beyond. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primordia is *very* good. Not only has it great setting, characters (with some really nice voice acting), cool and logical puzzles, unique art style and music that puts you right in the mood, but is also masterfully made in such a way that all this fits together creates a greater whole, various elements complementing each other to make something truly exceptional. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will not find the puzzle/plot distinction here. Aside from the occasional cutscenes, puzzles just *are* the plot and serve both to present you a challenge and immerse you into the world even further. And it is the kind of world I willingly wanted to be immersed into. It is post-apocalyptic in the best sense of this phrase (think Fallout or Mad Max 2) - bleak and depressing at times, but not afraid to throw a mood-enlightening joke now and again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tl;dr - If you like adventures games at all, you will love Primordia. Great game, although I wouldn't mind it being a little longer.
